U. S. trade fair generates USD 760 thousand for Brazilian footwear manufacturers

Exceeding expectations, the first participation of Brazilian brands in the U.S. footwear fair Dallas Apparel & Accessories Market, from October 26 to 29, generated USD 760 thousand, combining deals closed on the spot and those that began to be negotiated during the event. The participation of three Brazilian brands – Carrano, Bottero, and Schutz – was supported by the Brazilian Footwear, footwear exports promotion program developed by the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).

The report prepared by Abicalçados states that 115 qualified contacts were established, 70 of them unprecedented. The immediate business deals totaled over USD 120 thousand, to which another USD 640 thousand will likely be added as a result of sales that were negotiated during the event. "The result was quite positive, taking into account that it was the first participation of the Brazilian brands. It was clear that the U.S. market, at this time of recovery, has been looking for new alternatives for its consumers, and Brazilian shoes seem to be very competitive,” says Abicalçados' Trade Promotion analyst, Ruisa Scheffel. According to her, the current exchange rate – with the devaluation of the real against the dollar – also ends up being favorable for Brazilian footwear manufacturers since they are able to set more competitive prices for the international market.

The main destination for Brazilian shoes abroad, the United States imported 10 million Brazilian pairs between January and September, generating USD 153 million. This represents increases both in volume (+52.7%) and in revenue (+41.7%) in relation to the same period last year.

Dallas Apparel & Accessories Market ended the trade fair circuit in the United States. Altogether, the fairs Playtime NY, MAGIC Las Vegas, Sourcing @ MAGIC, Atlanta Shoe Market, MAGIC NY, and Dallas Apparel & Accessories Market totaled USD 3 million between the deals that were closed and negotiated during the events. The participation was made possible by the Brazilian Footwear.
