South African buyer participates in Couromoda

The 47th edition of Couromoda was the stage for another edition of the VIP Buyer Project. The footwear trade show took place at Expo Center Norte, in the city of São Paulo (in the namesake state) from January 13 to 15 Developed through the Brazilian Footwear, footwear exports promotion program run by the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), the project brought buyer Vasu Pillay, of the South African group Polo South Africa, to Brazil.

Abicalçados' Trade Promotion analyst Paola Pontin accompanied the buyer. She highlighted that business deals totaling USD 60 thousand were negotiated. The deals will likely be concluded in the upcoming months.  "The participation was quite productive. The buyer's potential for footwear imports is great. Currently, the company brings all shoes from China, but it would like to broaden its mix of suppliers and products," says Pontin.

Pillay represented the group, which has 21 own stores and is present in over 300 multi-brand stores in South Africa. He says that he was "very happy to come to Brazil," especially since he prospected new partners guided by Abicalçados, which, even before the trip, sent available options. Some were selected by him, optimizing time and making negotiations easier. "I plan to come back to Brazil in two months, with more people from the team, to visit some factories. I intend to start working with Brazil later this year," the buyer foresees. He said he is more interested in women's leather shoes.
