North american fair receives 21 brazilian brands29/01/2019
The fair FN Platform, which takes place in Las Vegas from February 5 to 7, will receive a delegation with 21 Brazilian footwear brands. The initiative is promoted by the Brazilian Footwear, footwear exports promotion program developed by the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) and by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
Ruísa Scheffel, an analyst of Abicalçados' Trade Promotion Unit, highlights that the North American market is very competitive but that Brazil has been regaining space in recent years. "The trade war with China waged by Donald Trump's government has been making importers of large local groups diversify their suppliers. Therefore, Brazilian footwear will likely gain space," she mentions.
According to her, another important factor for optimism is the change in venue of the tradeshow, which will now take place in a hall closer to WWD Magic, clothing fair that takes place at the same time as FN Platform. "Thus, buyers that seek a complete package of clothing and shoes will be able to move more easily between one hall and the other, increasing the number of visitors," she foresees.
Scheffel says that last year the fair generated – between deals on the spot and those that began to be negotiated during the fair – over US$ 4.7 million. The United States was the main destination of Brazilian footwear abroad in 2018, even recording an increase in the last month of that year, when it imported over 2 million pairs, a figure 50% higher than the one registered in the same month in 2017. "The movement was different when it comes to exports in general, which registered a 10% decrease. This increase was possibly already a reflection of the trade war with the Chinese," the analyst assesses. During 2018, however, Brazilian exports to the United States decreased by 5% in relation to 2017, ending with 10.8 million pairs.
In the February 2018 edition, MAGIC Week, during which several fashion fairs – FN Platform among them – take place, received more than 50 thousand visitors, mostly from North America, with prominence to the United States and Canada. "However, it is a trade fair with a strong international character, which receives brands and buyers from over 30 countries," Scheffel explains. She also highlights the quality of the visitors: 50% of them are directors with decision-making power. "In addition, 55% of buyers who visit the trade show are boutiques or chains with up to six stores, which seek products with higher value-added," she concluded.
The brands Rider, Cartago, Ipanema, Zaxy, Grendene Kids, Boaonda, Carrano, Vicenza, Werner, Kidy, Magia Teen, Petite Jolie, Ala, Zatz, Beira Rio Conforto, Moleca, Molekinha, Molekinho, Modare Ultraconforto, Vizzano, and Schutz participate in FN Platform.
