| Footwear Pole in Goiás | | The State of Goiás is starting its activities in the footwear segment. The goal is to take better advantage of the leather supply. The center-west region of Brazil (formed by the States of Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso and the Federal District) is responsible for 35% of the national cattle herd. The country has 210 million cattle, 21 million of them are in Goiás, standing in fourth position of largest Brazilian cattle herd. The 450 shoe companies from Goiás – most of them located in the city of Goiânia - produce 36 million pairs of shoes per year. These companies employ ten thousand people. The big goal of companies from the State of Goiás is to increase its presence in the international market. To achieve this goal, a Local Productive Arrangement is being managed, with a budget of R$ 4.5 million. |
