| Footwear Pole in Bahia | | In the State of Bahia, production is divided in several cities. There are 66 industrial plants, 43 of which of footwear and 23 of components, distributed in the regions of Feira de Santana, Alagoinhas, Cruz das Almas, Itabuna, Vitória da Conquista and Ilhéus. Around 26 thousand employees work in these companies which annually produce 43 million pairs of shoes, as well as accessories such as handbags, belts, wallets and briefcases. In 2008, ten other footwear and components factories were being installed and 21 intention protocols were to be signed. These ventures will result in 16 thousand new jobs. Last year, Bahia exported eight million pairs, generating revenue of US$ 82.6 million. |
