Abicalçados' digital business platform grows by 200%

Created in 2015, the digital platform, which enables direct contact between Brazilian footwear manufacturers and national and international buyers, grew by about 200% last year. Unprecedented in the national footwear industry, the initiative is managed by the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) and by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). Currently, it features 85 Brazilian brands and over 1.6 thousand active buyers from 168 countries, with prominence to the United States, Italy, Colombia, Russia, Portugal, France, China, and Germany.

Abicalçados' Trade Promotion analyst, Paola Pontin, highlights that the tool has been enabling an increase in footwear exports with the companies' own brands, a motto of the Brazilian Footwear program. "The platform meets a trend for modernization of business models, approximating and beginning negotiations between Brazilian brands and buyers from major global markets, with reliability", she mentions.

How it works
Operating on the domain, the initiative enables the beginning of negotiations between importers and registered companies, generating relevant business deals for the country's footwear exports. Pontin explains that the participating brands, which must be members of Abicalçados and of the program, receive a login and password and may customize and their pages at any time.  In turn, buyers who are interested in checking out the available shoes register on the platform and must ask each brand for authorization to view all the information about the company and its products. On the other hand, the registered brand receives all the information on the buyers.

In addition to the virtual platform, the Brazilian Footwear promotes a series of actions in the Brazilian and international market, aiming to increase exports of Brazilian shoes. In 2017, member companies accounted for over 80% of the total generated with the industry's exports (US$ 1.09 billion).
